Welcome to Zuger Kantonsspital

Zuger Kantonsspital is made up of four clinics: Surgical Clinic, Orthopaedic Clinic, Medical Clinic and Women's Clinic. They are complemented by anaesthesia / intensive care medicine with an intensive care unit, diagnostic and interventional radiology, and the interdisciplinary emergency centre.

Zuger Kantonsspital has been attending to the health of the inhabitants of Zug for more than 160 years. It has almost 1'000 members of staff (including 100 in training) in the most varied of fields. Every year we treat and care for more than 11,000 inpatients and some 50,000 outpatients, as well as more than 20,000 patients in the interdisciplinary emergency centre.

We provide a first-class medical infrastructure and a comprehensive range of services, but we also focus on an integrated treatment concept customised to the needs of our patients.

Clinics and Institutes

Surgical Clinic

When patients undergo a surgical procedure, it is of the utmost importance to us that they have complete trust in our medical competence. At Zuger Kantonsspital we rely on an experienced team of specialists, outstanding professional knowledge, and a modern medical infrastructure. Patients are looked after and monitored individually by an anaesthesia team before, during and after surgery.

Both minor procedures and extremely complex surgery are performed at the hospital. Our specialist medical staff are highly qualified, and we guarantee the highest level of care. Every single member of staff does everything to ensure that procedures run smoothly. Our working atmosphere is open, creative and team-oriented. This is vouched for in the close cooperation with external specialists and referring GPs.

Interdisciplinary cooperation

Interdisciplinary cooperation between various specialist fields and areas of expertise is a key factor in the successful treatment of patients with accident injuries and degenerative diseases of the whole musculoskeletal system.

Rheumatological Joint Diseases

In cooperation with our rheumatologists, we offer various conservative treatment options for degenerative joint pain. When conservative measures are no longer sufficient, we use surgical procedures for joint maintenance and joint replacement.

Physotherapy Treatment

Specialised in orthopaedics and traumatology, our physiotherapy team - in close cooperation with doctors - looks after and supports patients by treating their symptoms and helping them achieve their goals. Conservative therapy focusses mainly on compensating for functional deficits (limitations to movement in a joint, lack of strength or stability, malpositions) and on increasing personal performance. After surgery, we support patients with specific treatment and exercises so that they can get back to unrestricted activities in everyday life, leisure time and sport as soon as possible.

Sports Medicine

The interdisciplinary team of doctors in our Centre for Sports Medicine, which has been recognised as a “Sport Medical Base approved by Swiss Olympic”, looks after and treats top athletes and recreational athletes after accidents and in the case of illness, and helps them return to full training.

Medical Clinic

Internal medicine focusses on diseases of internal organs. For diagnoses and non-surgical treatment, our focus is on integrated medicine. This means that our staff never lose sight of the whole person or reduce patients to a heart, lung, liver, kidney or stomach. It goes without saying that decisions about the correct types of treatment and the involvement of appropriate specialists are made quickly.

In addition to medical measures, we also place great value on detailed discussions with patients and their relatives. Internal diseases treated at Zuger Kantonsspital include cancer, blood conditions, infectious and metabolic diseases, as well as rheumatological and neurological diseases. We also specialise in osteoporosis, diabetology, endocrinology, allergology and sports medicine.

In our special clinics in the Gynaecology department we perform preventive investigations and advise women of all ages on issues pertaining to contraception, menopause, inability to conceive, incontinence, and much more. Examinations and treatments in the case of disorders of the female genitals are thorough and sensitive. If surgical procedures are required, we perform them in a minimally invasive manner whenever possible, i.e. without an abdominal incision.

Our Breast Care Nurse provides our breast cancer patients with information, advice and support. She is an experienced breast care specialist nurse who coordinates all internal and external treatments, thus contributing to an ideal treatment outcome.

In terms of radiology, Zuger Kantonsspital uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure that investigations are as gentle as possible. This means maximum X-ray diagnostics with minimum exposure.

Diagnostic radiology uses X-rays, ultrasound and magnetic resonance. Our team endeavours to make radiological assessments as comfortable as possible so that the technology does not cause patients to feel anxious. For more information in German click here

Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine

Anaesthetics are used to stop patients from feeling pain during a procedure. Although it goes without saying that safety during and after anaesthesia is our utmost priority, we are aware that many people are anxious about the anaesthetic. Our anaesthetists have an in-depth personal discussion about the anaesthetic with each patient, which helps to dispel fears and creates trust.

Together with the patient we determine the most suitable technique: general anaesthetic, regional anaesthetic or local anaesthetic. We also focus on making things as pain-free as possible after surgery so that nobody has to experience unnecessary pain. It goes without saying that we always provide explanations and detailed discussions about both the procedure and the anaesthetic.
