Reasons why you should do your apprenticeship at the hospital
- The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – a power cut is simply not an option here.
- Our own transformer station, emergency power generators and UPS system are specialised installations that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.
- On top of that, there are systems such as the patient call system and the telephone system, which you’ll have the opportunity to work on.
- For some installations, you’ll work alongside our medical technology team.
- Through assignments with partner companies, you’ll also gain experience of new installations on building sites – a combination that a purely electrical business cannot offer you.
Your everyday life – a personal account
Someone doing an apprenticeship with us says:
What is a typical day like during the apprenticeship?
“I work in the technical department at Zuger Kantonsspital four days a week and attend vocational college one day a week. During this four-year training programme, I have the opportunity to complete two work placements with a construction company. There are new challenges every day at work, such as technical faults and new installations.”
What are the particular challenges?
“Unexpected faults keep cropping up, which put my specialist knowledge – and my technical skills – to the test – particularly when it comes to faults in systems or equipment with which I am not yet very familiar. In such cases, I always call in one of our specialists.”
Why did you choose this career?
“I enjoy working with my hands and I can put my knowledge to good use at the same time. It’s an ideal combination. As an electrician, you have good career prospects, and this profession is an integral part of the world of work. I’ve always been fascinated by electricity. You also have a great deal of responsibility, as electricity can be dangerous.”
