Zuger Kantonsspital is very well capitalised despite a loss for the year

For the first time since 2008, Zuger Kantonsspital has posted an annual loss of CHF 4.7 million. This is attributable, amongst other things, to investments in enhancing its appeal as an employer and to tariffs in the inpatient and outpatient sectors that do not cover costs. The strategically and politically driven increase in the number of outpatient operations led to lower cost recovery, whilst patient numbers in the inpatient sector remained stable. Thanks to a high equity ratio of 55 per cent, Zuger Kantonsspital is able to make the investments planned for the next five years without raising external capital.

In this interview, Daniel Staffelbach, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Matthias Winistörfer, Hospital Director, discuss the current challenges, the highlights of 2024 and the future of healthcare in Switzerland.
