What does dermatology treat?
Dermatology is the medical specialism dealing with diseases of the skin and its appendages, namely the hair, nails and adjacent mucous membranes. It also covers sexually transmitted infections.
We always begin with a thorough assessment. Only once the cause and severity are clear do we work with you to select the most appropriate treatment.
We treat patients with skin cancer and manage diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care – in some cases in collaboration with the University Hospital of Zurich. Where surgical procedures are necessary, we work alongside our (plastic) surgeons. We care for patients who have undergone organ transplants and are at higher risk of malignant skin tumours; depending on the severity of the condition, we work in close consultation with the Immunosuppressed Patients’ Clinic at the University Hospital of Zurich (USZ).
Modern treatments for chronic skin conditions
For chronic conditions such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa (acne inversa) or chronic urticaria, treatment options have advanced significantly in recent years, for example through targeted medicines (biologics). Our dermatology team employs these treatments following careful consultation and explanation.
The aim is to provide long-term relief from symptoms and to noticeably improve your quality of life on a day-to-day basis. We will decide together which options are suitable for you, taking into account your individual situation, any pre-existing conditions and your everyday life.
Why choose Zuger Kantonsspital?
Within the hospital, we work on an interdisciplinary basis – for example, with the departments of Internal Medicine, Allergology, Rheumatology and Oncology. Our patients benefit from this interdisciplinary exchange of expertise and the wide range of treatment options available.
We do not carry out cosmetic procedures at Zuger Kantonsspital. If you are seeking cosmetic treatment, we will be happy to advise you and refer you to specialist centres.
