Memory Clinic

The Memory Clinic at Zuger Kantonsspital is the point of contact for people experiencing memory problems, difficulties concentrating or other changes in cognitive function. We will carefully assess your symptoms and provide you and your family with expert and empathetic support.

What do we offer?

Forgetfulness or difficulties concentrating can have various causes. Through a comprehensive assessment, we can identify the underlying causes of these symptoms and determine which treatment or support is most appropriate. The earlier dementia is diagnosed, the more effectively further care can be planned.

Your assessment

To begin with, we will discuss your symptoms, your medical history and your personal circumstances with you. We will then carry out neuropsychological tests and, if necessary, supplement the assessment with imaging examinations.

We will discuss the results in detail with you and your family. Together, we will decide on the next steps. These include medical and therapeutic care, as well as support with everyday life.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

Our interdisciplinary team comprises neuropsychologists, neurologists and specialists in radiology, geriatrics and geriatric psychiatry. This means you benefit from a comprehensive assessment and treatment tailored to your individual circumstances.

Zuger Kantonsspital is a certified member of ‘Swiss Memory Clinics’ and operates in accordance with recognised quality standards. We continue to support you even after your diagnosis and work closely with your GP practice and other specialist services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a Memory Clinic?

A Memory Clinic is a specialist clinic that assesses memory problems and investigates possible cases of dementia. An interdisciplinary team assesses cognitive function, makes a diagnosis and recommends appropriate support.

When should I start visiting the Memory Clinic?

It is advisable to seek medical advice as soon as you notice repeated episodes of forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating or disorientation – whether in yourself or in a family member. The sooner the cause is identified, the better the treatment can be planned.

Do I need a referral to attend the Memory Clinic?

A referral from your GP’s surgery is helpful as it provides important background information. If you have any questions about booking an appointment, please call us on 041 399 41 80.

What happens during the assessment?

The assessment involves a detailed consultation, neuropsychological tests and, if necessary, imaging scans. We will then discuss the results with you and your family and decide together on the next steps.
