Admission

Here you can find out how to arrange your admission time, where to register and what steps to follow when you are admitted to hospital. This will help you approach the day as calmly as possible.

Important information about admission

When will I be told my admission time?

For an inpatient stay

Our patient coordination team will inform you of the date and time of your admission to hospital in good time.

For an outpatient procedure

If you have not yet arranged a fixed appointment with your treating doctor, we will confirm the exact time the day before the procedure. The patient coordination team will usually contact you between 3 pm and 5 pm.

Please set aside the whole day for your outpatient procedure. Unforeseen emergencies may cause the surgical schedule to be rescheduled.

If you are unable to attend

If you are unable to attend the agreed appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance by calling 041 399 43 10. This will allow us to reschedule in good time.

Getting here

There are a limited number of paid parking spaces in the public car park. We therefore recommend that you travel by public transport where possible: the hospital is about a five-minute walk from Baar railway station and the bus stops. There are short-stay parking spaces in front of the main entrance for taxis and Tixi vehicles. Please allow a little extra time so that you can arrive at the agreed time without any stress.

Registration on the day of entry

Please report to reception at the main entrance at the agreed time and hand in your health insurance card. Once the registration formalities are complete, the process continues as follows:

  • Inpatient stay: We will collect you, accompany you to your room and explain the next steps to you there.
  • Outpatient procedure: Please report to the information desk at the main entrance. There, you will be told where to go.
  • Outpatient procedure at the Outpatient Surgery Centre (AOZ): If the procedure is taking place at the AOZ, please report directly to reception on Level -1 (take the lift to the basement).

Your patient wristband for greater safety

You will be given a patient wristband during an inpatient stay and for outpatient operations or procedures. Our staff use this to verify your identity at every stage of your treatment. This helps us to minimise the risk of mix-ups and improve patient safety.

A discussion about your medication

To ensure that your medication is managed safely whilst you are with us, we will ask you specific questions around the time of your admission to hospital about all the medicines and remedies you are currently taking or have taken recently. This includes both medicines prescribed by a doctor and those you have bought yourself. It is also important for us to know how you use each individual product. Therefore, please think not only of tablets, but also of:

  • Medicines you only take when needed
  • Over-the-counter medicines from a pharmacy or chemist’s
  • Eye, ear and nose drops, as well as nasal sprays
  • Medicines for inhalation or injection
  • Medical plasters, creams, gels and ointments
  • Suppositories
  • Vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements
  • Herbal and homeopathic remedies
  • Hormone preparations

Please also let us know about any allergies or intolerances. If you do not have your medicines with you, your relatives can bring them in later. If you are unsure about any details, we will be happy to contact your treating doctors or your pharmacy with your consent. If you think of anything else later, please speak to a nurse at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When will I find out when I need to be admitted to hospital?

If you are being admitted as an in-patient, our patient admissions team will let you know the date and time in good time. If you are having an outpatient procedure – unless you have already arranged an appointment with your doctor – you will be given the exact arrival time the day before, usually between 3 pm and 5 pm.

Where do I check in on the day of admission?

Please report to reception at the main entrance at the agreed time and hand in your health insurance card there. We will then show you where to go.

How much time should I allow for an outpatient procedure?

It’s best to set aside the whole day. Unforeseen emergencies may cause the surgery schedule to be rescheduled, which could delay your procedure. Please also bear in mind that you are not allowed to drive yourself home after having anaesthesia.

What is the patient wristband used for?

Our staff use the patient wristband to verify your identity at every stage of your treatment. This reduces the risk of mix-ups and improves patient safety. You will be given the wristband during every inpatient stay and for outpatient operations or procedures.

Do I also need to include vitamins and herbal remedies when listing my medication?

Yes. To ensure your treatment is safe, we need a complete overview of all the medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, dietary supplements, herbal and homeopathic remedies, as well as drops, sprays, ointments and plasters. Some of these may affect the way other medicines work.
