Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine – Teaching Hospital

Postgraduate Medical Training

Our Institute of Anaesthesia, the Interdisciplinary Intensive Care Unit and the Pain Clinic are recognised as Category B training centres. The training is recognised towards the specialist qualification in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine. We offer training and further training places for junior doctors and assistant doctors.

We do not offer clinical placement positions.

For junior doctors

Positions

Our Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine has 10 junior doctor posts. Two years of this training count towards the specialist qualification in Anaesthesiology, whilst six months count towards the specialist qualification in Intensive Care Medicine.

For junior assistants

Training

Our department is responsible for the following training tasks for junior doctors:

  • Basic specialist knowledge
  • Dealing with patients and conducting medical consultations
  • Specialist examination and assessment of patients
  • Instruction in and administration of simple anaesthesia on patients
  • Individual teaching and in-house continuing professional development events

Positions

The Institute of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine offers junior assistant positions. The content of the practical training is identical to that provided to fully enrolled medical students at the University of Zurich.

Information for doctors from abroad

All persons practising a university-level medical profession must be registered in the Medical Professions Register and possess the necessary language skills for the practice of their profession. Please note the registration requirement set out by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) for all university-qualified medical professionals working in Switzerland.

  • Certified Specialist in Anaesthesia Nursing (NDS HF)
  • Certified Specialist in Intensive Care Nursing (NDS HF)
