What does ‘infertility’ mean?
Infertility is defined as the failure to conceive after a prolonged period (usually 12 months). The World Health Organisation (WHO) classifies infertility as a medical condition requiring treatment. This is a good reason to seek specialist advice at an early stage. During the fertility consultation, we carry out a comprehensive assessment of the relevant factors relating to you and your partner. This assessment is covered by your health insurance.
Your journey through the fertility consultation
During a detailed initial consultation, we explain the assessment process and the possible treatment options. Depending on the results, the options range from monitoring your cycle and providing hormonal support for egg maturation to intrauterine insemination. Our aim is always to work with you to find the gentlest and most suitable approach.
If surgery is required to examine the fallopian tubes or if endometriosis is suspected, our team of doctors performs minimally invasive procedures. If in vitro fertilisation (IVF) is the only option, we work closely with our partner clinic, the OVA IVF Clinic in Zurich, and the Omvia practice at the Luzerner Kantonsspital in Zug, where ‘social freezing’ is also available on request. Further fertility treatments may be partially covered by health insurance following approval of the costs.
Why choose Zuger Kantonsspital?
As part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, you benefit from short distances: gynaecology, urology and obstetrics work closely together under one roof, complemented by established partnerships in reproductive medicine. If you become pregnant, we can support you right through to the birth if you wish, or you can remain under the familiar care of your own gynaecologist.
