Gynaecological Oncology

A cancer diagnosis changes many things. In the Department of Gynaecological Oncology at Zuger Kantonsspital, we support women with malignant tumours of the breast and female reproductive organs. Every year, over 100 women newly diagnosed with cancer place their trust in us. For each of them, we work with other specialists at our weekly interdisciplinary tumour boards to develop the best possible treatment plan.

Which types of cancer do we treat?

Gynaecological oncology focuses on malignant tumours of the female reproductive organs and the breast. These include, amongst others, cancers of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, peritoneum, uterus, cervix, vagina and vulva, as well as the breast (breast cancer). We bring together specialist expertise under one roof for the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.

Your treatment – coordinated on an interdisciplinary basis

We discuss each patient’s case in our interdisciplinary tumour boards. Specialists from gynaecology, oncology, radiology, surgery, radiation oncology, pathology, plastic surgery, physiotherapy and oncology nursing consult with one another during the tumour board meetings. Together, they determine the best possible course of action for you: from diagnosis through treatment to aftercare. Our ‘Breast and Cancer Care Nurses’ support you every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which types of cancer are treated by the gynaecological oncology department at Zuger Kantonsspital?

We treat malignant tumours of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, peritoneum, uterus, cervix, vagina and vulva, as well as breast cancer (mammary carcinoma). Every year, we care for over 100 women newly diagnosed with these conditions.

What is a tumour board?

At a tumour board meeting, specialists from various disciplines – such as gynaecology, oncology, radiology, radiation oncology, pathology and specialist surgery, including plastic surgery – discuss a patient’s case together. This results in a coordinated treatment plan that takes all relevant specialities into account.

Does Zuger Kantonsspital also treat breast cancer?
